Nets to Net Worth is a combination sport and financial instruction program that relates the principles of sports to the principles of financial responsibility. The program is designed for inner-city youth of Buffalo that do not have regular access to sporting and financial education. Our goal is to instill basic financial principles presented in an engaging manner with the anticipation that each participant will retain and incorporate the instruction in their daily lives, their future plans, and ultimately bring it back to their communities.
The first session of the Nets to Net Worth program began in the summer of 2009, with a group of 24 children between the ages of 7 to 17, learning tennis and financial literacy.
The program was a collaborative effort between several organizations including the Buffalo Olmsted Conservancy, who provided teens to assist as mentors and tennis instructors; The National Inner City Youth Organization, who provided a professional tennis instructor to oversee the instruction; and Junior Achievement, who supplied the financial literacy materials.
The beginning stages of the program have laid the foundations for anticipated success in the future. With the help of our partners and continual relationship building with community organizers across Buffalo, Nets to Net Worth will work its way to becoming a year round after school/summer program that will aid children and teens ages 10 to 17.
Nets to Net Worth is a collaborative effort between MicroBiz Buffalo, Inc., The National Inner City Youth Organization, Junior Achievement and C.A.S.H. Buffalo (Creating Assets, Savings, & Hope).
